Door Of Happiness
We all want to be happy. It’s the one fact of life that rings true for everyone, regardless of our background and differences: rich or poor, beautiful or ugly, fat or thin, popular or unknown, we all just want to be happy. Many doors of happiness are opened up to us in the course of our lives. Sometimes, even two doors at once. And as we enter and rejoice in our newfound happiness, we wish the feeling will never end. But like all things in life, happiness lasts too. Sometimes it lasts longer, sometimes it lasts for only a short period of time. And when that door of happiness closes, we are so consumed with all the happy memories and experiences, that we tend to look longingly at the closed door. Instead of moving on, our hearts are stuck. After all, how can you let go of something that made you happy?
One good example: You meet a great guy, and you fall in love. Suddenly, your life changes, you see the world with colors and everything around you seems beautiful. You become so happy and contented. Then one day, he breaks up with you. The door closes and slams itself in your face. But you were so happy! You didn’t want it to end. So you wait outside the door, hoping it will open and let you in once again. You don’t want to leave the comfort and happiness you experienced. So you wait. And while you wait, you can’t see that there’s this new guy waiting for you already. Someone who’s willing to love you and ready to give you a new kind of happiness, even more than what you had before. But because you were looking so long at the closed door, you didn’t notice the other door of happiness opening up to accommodate you. Too bad.
What we don’t know, or rather, what we always forget… is that everything happens for a reason. When one door of happiness closes, another will open. That’s life. We experience happiness, and then we get hurt. And then we learn from it, and move on. Happiness is a fleeting feeling. But really, it’s a choice too. If you want to be happy, you have to choose to find it. Even if it means prying ourselves away from the old and familiar, even if it means dragging ourselves away from the closed door. It’s totally worth it.
Life Quote: “When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don’t see the one which has been opened for us.”
